Survival Skills Devotional – The coming Zombie Apocalypse?

We live in a day and age where some believe a Zombie apocalypse could happen. There are websites dedicated to this event. Even the Center for Disease Control (CDC) uses a Zombie outbreak to help spread the news about preparation. Many movies, books, TV shows, and comics have been written about the subject, but why?

I believe we are attracted to the notion of a zombie apocalypse because there is an actual apocalypse foretold of in the Bible. The world as we know it, is coming to an end. I wish I could believe that we will all put down our weapons, hate and bigotry to love one another. Unfortunately, it is just not true. We are humans. No matter what people say or believe, we are prone to selfishness.

This propensity will eventually lead to the end of the age. The Bible talks about this in some detail in the book of Revelation. That is why, I believe, these movies and TV programs do so well. I personally enjoy watching most apocalyptic stories from a zombie apocalypse, to asteroids striking the earth, to an airborne virus that wipes out the planet, to what the Bible calls the rapture.

According to the Bible, the end is near. No one really knows when, but all we have to do is look at how messed up this world is to know something is coming.

Since, I believe, we are living at the end of days, we have decided to launch a church that is thankful for the days we have and seeks community with one another in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. Obviously, we don’t take ourselves to seriously. We enjoy a good zombie flick or video game.

We see the hand of God moving amongst all the chaos. We see Him preparing us for this coming day. We have chosen not to hide and stock pile food but to reach out to the hurting and fearful, the just and unjust, the rich and the poor, the churched and the unchurched to become the greatest community of all…a church.

Why do you think people are attracted to the apocalypse? Let me know your thoughts below.
