Survival Skills Devotional – A Struggle for Survival

What are you? We are a church of survivors. We are a church who are in this world but are not of this world. We are a people who struggle to survive every day. We have lived this life and have known the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. We realize the only thing we have to hold on to is God. He is our hope in the joys and struggles of life. At the zombie church, we don’t focus on zombies. We focus on survivors.

We look at zombies in this current life as our flesh. Before Christ, we were all like
zombies. We were spiritually dead to the world around us. We could not see or hear God because we were so focused on ourselves. Then one day our eyes opened and we realized we were dead without Christ in our lives.

When we come to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior, we become a new
creation in Him. The old things pass away and all becomes new. However, we now enter into a spiritual battle between our new man (spirit) and our old man (the flesh, or our zombie nature). The flesh wants nothing to do with who we are in Christ. Our flesh exists to please itself. It is really mindless and does everything it can to kill our spiritual nature. We war against or flesh, every day is a battle. Sometimes win and at other times we lose, but God has been faithful to us and we are still here.

Realizing our flesh is like a zombie in our lives is instrumental in helping us survive. If we can see our flesh as a zombie who is desperately trying to kill our spirits we would be more likely to run from this zombie instead of entertain it.

We all have stories of survival. There have been times when we have failed, but God has been faithful. There have been times when we have overcome and He was there. There have been times when we have been hurt, yet we have survived because God loves us and cares for us. We are still here and God still has a plan for our lives.
